| STOP PURCHASING ALL DOG TREATS! Now that China is involved in the manufacturing, and packaging, of ingredients and products for dogs we recommend that all consumers stop purchasing ALL DOG TREATS! China is well known to produce products that have melamine in them. As you may know, many such products have harmed and killed humans and animals alike. Please give only the treats listed below to your toy dog. Many contain bacteria. They are not inspected. |

Pressure Cooker Chicken & Chicken Broth Please read warning about feeding too much fat and calcium
Whole Chicken 2 - 2 1/2 qts. water
Cover Chicken with water. Cook 28 minutes in Pressure Cooker. Cool 5 min., naturally. Cool pan under water. Open and Store/Use Chicken. Store broth in freezer bag that has been placed in a 2 qt. pitcher. Let it cool before placing it in the bag. Remove pitcher after frozen. Freeze and Use when desired.
We use the chicken in soup, and we give tiny bits to the dog. Remember, that the dog can only consume 1 tablespoon of chopped chicken, not one half cup of chopped chicken. MODERATION IS THE KEY.
Dog should only have 1 tablespoon of chopped chicken twice a week!
IF YOU CANNOT BE MODERATE PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THIS TO THE DOG AS YOU CAN KILL HIM AT A YOUNG AGE WITH FAT.
Remove bones, skin and fat before giving chicken to your dog. You can freeze your dog's servings in small baggies in one tablespoon serving size.
Feeding broth: The fat is very harmful and can cause pancreatitis, so, be sure to give the dog only 1 tablespoon of broth, without the fat. We prefer to make a more healthy broth for the dog from the bones of the chicken. We will use the chicken, and broth, and in soup, etc.
There is a very mild, low sodium dog friendly soup recipe below. We typically make human soup from the chicken broth, not the bone broth. The bone broth is milder and has more calcium in it. Calcium should not be given in large quantities until the puppy is about 1 - 1 1/2 years old. Too much calcium can cause bone disease when given to Havanese little puppies.
I have included these recipes as many people have older dogs and other breeds that can use this. Havanese can have it occasionally and in small, very small, quantities. They love it but do not kill your dog giving him lots of it. Remember he is only 1/15, or so, of the size you are. Keep in mind that you can consume a medium size bowl, and that he is only about 1/15th your size, so, he will be unable to eat more than a small amount and stay healthy. Additionally, dogs cannot get rid of fat that goes into their system as easily as humans. It can literally kill them! Since, he cannot process fat well, it ends up layering across his internal organs. Too much fat can kill him. USE THIS RECIPE AND ALL OTHER SNACKS WITH CAUTION AND VERY MODERATELY!
Chicken Broth From Bones
You can freeze bones from cooked chicken, until you are ready to use them.
This is a very inexpensive way to provide calcium and protein to your dog with an item that would just be thrown away.
Whole Chicken Bones With Some Skin 2 - 2 1/2 qts. water
Pressure cook bones. Cook without onions as you will remember that onions causes hemolytic anemia in dogs. Sometimes the disease does not show up until months later. Pressure cook bones and water for 1 hr. at 15 PSI. Cool naturally 5 minutes. Cool pan under water. Open and strain broth well. Remember, that your dog cannot digest bones, and will get choked on them. Bones can even puncture your dog's intestines. Strain the broth well.
Mild Dog-Friendly Chicken Soup
2 qts. Broth From Bones. Be sure to strain the broth well. 2 cans whole kernel corn, drained 2 cans chopped tomatoes, without onions Little Salt 1 can Italian cut green beans 2-43 cups chopped chicken, without skin Hand full of cooked and chopped spaghetti, or 2 cups cooked rice
Cook corn and tomatoes in broth in pressure cooker for 30 minutes. Cool naturally for 5 minutes and then cool with water over the pan. Open. Add Beans, spaghetti or rice and chicken. Stir and either serve or freeze.
A spoonful of this twice a week will not hurt the dog. You can freeze individual servings of it in small baggies so he can have a treat when you are ready to give it to him. PLEASE, DO NOT give him a bowl of this soup. Remember, an adult human will eat a bowl of it, and your dog only weighs about 12 lbs., whereas you weigh about 120 lbs.+. Please do not give him a whole bowl of this as that much can harm him. He weighs a small fraction of what you weigh like about 1/15th of what you weigh. Please, he only needs a spoonful of this at any given time. He can have a tablespoon ful of it twice a week.
One recipe, if frozen, will last your dog a very long time.
Chicken And Rice In Bone Broth For Dogs
4 1/2 cups Bone Broth 2 cups long grain rice 1 cup chopped chicken, no skin or fat
Bring all to a boil. Cook, covered, for 25 miniutes on medium low on stove.
Freeze in baggies in 1-2 Tablespoon serving size.
