Havanese Designer Mixes, Havanese Cross Breeds, & Havanese Breed Cross Problems
What is a HAVA BOLO?
A cross breeding of a Havanese and a Bolognese.
There are various other crosses as well, such as HavaCockers, HavaSpaniels, HavaTerriers, HavaPoodles, Snoodles, Labradoodles, Maltipoos, Cockapoos, etc.
Crossbreeds can have the same health issues that their parents have a propensity to exhibit. For instance, the occasional health issue, liver shunts, can occur in all toy breeds. A coupling of different toy breeds, such as a Bolognese and a Havanese, or a Bichon Frise and a Havanese, can create a newly virulent form of a disease that is known to exist in both breeds.
The offspring of different dog breeds can have a new and more deadly form of the old disease, that was known to both breeds.
Many people have said that breeders who intentionally breed crossbreeds, are typically people who have not owned the breeds they are cross breeding for a long time. They have little, to no, history on the dogs they are cross breeding. The dogs used in the cross breeding may carry many predisposed health risks, as the people who cross dogs are not often those who are typically concerned with health issues.
Reputable breeders will not sell dogs to breeders who cross breed dogs. So the source of the dogs that the "Designer Dog Breeder" has, is an issue.
Additionally, the ethics of the Designer Dog Kennel owner, or Cross Breeder, is an issue. The Designer Dog Breeder is usually a breeder who is breeding dogs only for the money they bring her. She is usually not a breeder who has a long history with her "breed" and loves her "breed". She is not usually one who concerns herself with helping educate the new owners on her "breed".
What happens when you breed a Shih Tzu, Cocker, or Tibetan Terrier to a Havanese, or other smaller dog?
Sometimes the offspring will have the brain size of the larger brained dog, in this case the Shih Tzu, Cocker, or Tibetan Terrier, and that offspring, may also have the skull capacity of the smaller dog, in this case the Havanese.
The pup may have a brain that is too large to fit into his skull. Neurological problems are the result.
The offspring of mixed breed crosses can have very serious physical problems!
Other physical anomalies occur with illegitimate cross breeding, such as the severe back problems that occur in HavaCocker crosses, and other Havanese crosses. The offspring can have the weaker, longer back of the Havanese, and the heavier frame of the Cocker, or other larger dog. If the offspring has the shorter legs of the Havanese, and the weaker back of the Havanese, coupled with the larger frame of the cocker, or other larger dog, you are probably going to see a dog that has to be put down [to sleep] very early, due to ruptured discs, paralysis, and pain.
It is very sad to have to put down a dog that cannot walk because it has suffered numerous ruptured discs at an early age. Needless to say, such an animal would be in enormous pain. We have seen dogs that had to be put to sleep when they were very young due to the exact back problems described here.
Illegitimate cross breeding often creates an offspring with mis-matched body parts that are not anatomically sound.
Cross breeds will not have the same reliable temperament and loving disposition that purebred Havanese have.
Cross Breeds will not have the same reliable ability to be hypoallergenic, non-shedding and odorless.
Many times Designer Dog Breeders do not offer papers on the dogs, as there is no real true registry that can confirm the authenticity of the parents since they are different breeds, or perhaps not a breed at all. There really is no need for papers since the offspring is a mutt.
Many Designer Dog Breeders will sell dogs for cash only payments, without papers, and they may do so to skirt the ethics that legitimate breeders live and breathe by. Integrity is a big part of a proper breeding program.
Do not confuse Havanese Crosses/Mixes with Purebred Havanese. They are light years apart. The crosses are masquerading as Havanese, but they ARE NOT HAVANESE! They cannot be what a Havanese can be. Designer mixes are Mutts, Curs, and unreliable imposters created by unreliable breeders.

The Cross Breeder of Havanese
She doesn't care about the dogs.
She sees them in the winter huddled together, when they are wet, cold and shivering to survive.
She sees them in the summer when they are hot, overheated, panting breathlessly, and about ready to pass out.
She sees them every day.
She sees them every night.
She just does not care.
She does not change the situation.
She just does not care.
But, she has a stash of money from all of those cash sales.

PROTECTION FOR HAVANESE NEWBORNS, And Designer Dog Breeders Making The Havanese,
And Their Breeding Companions, Live Outside
Havanese puppies only weigh about 2 ounces at birth. They need to be warmed completely prior to nursing. If they are not sufficiently warmed prior to nursing they will not be able to process the milk and they will die. We place them in an incubator for 6 hrs. after birth.
Designer Dog Breeders often raise the cross breeds outside, where the poor dogs must meet the obstacles of rain, overbearing heat, and freezing cold.
Please do not buy dogs from a breeder who makes Havanese live outside in the harsh elements. Havanese are lap dogs. The breed was developed on the tropical island of Cuba, three hundred years ago. For most of the years that the Havanese have been in existence the breed has had a very protected and comfortable environment, the tropics. They were kept indoors even in tropical Cuba!
Havanese are small companion dogs, with very little body fat, and they cannot live well outside in the harshness of the elements, even in the temperate zones of the U.S.
Havanese have large profuse coats and if they are made to live outside, their coats will get wet in winter rains and snows. Wet coats in cold weather can cause them to go into hypothermia, develop frostbite and even freeze to death. We have seen the frostbitten limbs of dogs that were forced to live outside in the elements.
We have an older male that we rescued from a bad Designer Dog Breeder environment. Parts of his ears froze, and they were blackening and necrotic. His ears are permanently disfigured. We fear that he will have to have more ear surgery, to remove even more of his ears, as his circulatory problems continue. He has severe circulatory problems, and arthritis, from the cold weather, and frostbite he was forced to endure for two winters. We love him and care for him the best we can, considering the extent of his injuries.
Even in the warmer areas of our country, such as South Georgia, South Alabama, and South Mississippi, there are many weeks of cold sub-freezing weather. Would you like to live outside in cold sub-freezing temperatures?
Many Mixed Breed Kennels have small dog igloos and small pens where the dogs are kept outside year round. The dogs have to survive chilling rains throughout tornado and hurricane season, and, then, winter is upon them. Dogs that live outside in the southern U.S., do so in very harsh temperatures. Yes, even South Georgia and North Florida have very cold winters; and the type of cold in these areas is a humid cold, that penetrates fur and skin.
Many times the dogs will get icicles in their coats and have to try to huddle together to keep warm through the cold nights.
Havanese should not have to live outside shivering and huddling together to survive the night, in order to make a profit for disreputable breeders.
Havanese cannot stay outside for more than a few minutes at temperatures below 57 degrees.
Buy your puppy from a breeder who keeps all of her dogs inside.

Cross Breed Dogs, Designer Dogs, Mutts, Are Not Hybrids
Dr. George Padgett, A Renown Geneticist, Found More Hereditary Illnesses in Crossbreed Dogs or Designer Dogs Than In Cocker Spaniel Dogs!
Dr. Padgett's Well Known Article Was Published In Dog World Magazine.
Hybrid Animals are Animals that have parents which are different species.
According to the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN), the Biologic Classification of taxonomic hierarchy is: phylum, class, order, family, genus, species.
Are different dog breeds different species? NO! A dog breed is a type of distinction within a species, that is created by man.
Different species are reluctant to breed to each other. When different species breed together, their offspring are classified as hybrids.
Hybrid Animals are animals that have parents that are different species.
Examples of Hybrid Animals are:
Donkey (Equus africanus asinus) X Horse (Equus ferus caballus) = Mule (Hybrid Cross)
Lion (Panthera leo) X Tiger (Panthera tigris) = Liger (Hybrid Cross)
Hybrids sometimes have an uncommon vigor, or heterosis, that is touted to be extraordinary. They sometimes seem to be superior to both parents.
Different Dog Breeds that are Bred together cannot produce Hybrids!
A Cocker Spaniel that is bred to a Havanese does not produce a Hybrid Cross.
And, likewise, a Bolognese that is bred to a Havanese does not produce a Hybrid Cross!
And, Tibetan Terriers that are bred to Havanese cannot produce a Hybrid Cross!
No Matter which two dog breeds you select, if those two different dog breeds are bred together, their offspring cannot be a Hybrid offspring!
Their offspring cannot be HYBRIDs, because the parents are the same species! Hybrids must have parents that are different species!
Different Dog Breeds are not Separate Species, so the Offspring of Different Dog Breeds cannot be Hybrids!
Frequently, the designer dog crosses have less strength than the parents, and show decidedly increased problems with hereditary illnesses.
Dr. George Padgett, a renown geneticist, found more hereditary illnesses in designer dogs than in cocker spaniel dogs! His well known article was published in Dog World Magazine.
The Alleged Hybrid Vigor of Cross Breed Dogs, that is touted by Designer Dog Breeders, is a MYTH.
