Welcome to Beloved Havanese
We are one of the oldest Havanese aficionados in the world. We are the oldest breeder of Havanese in this part of the country. We are located near Atlanta, GA.
The Havanese breed was developed more than 300 years ago in Cuba. The Havanese were the national dog of Cuba before the evil dictator, Fidel Castro, took over the island and killed most of the dogs. The Havanese breed almost went extinct. There were only 11 Havanese left in the world in the 1970's. All present purebred Havanese came from those 11, eleven, Havanese, who were rescued and propagated by Dorothy Goodale. When you hear that there were always pockets of Havanese in Europe, (an invention by an importer to the big NYC pet store), Asia, or Russia, do not believe it, there were not. There have been many imposters presenting cross bred dogs as Havanese, even in the AKC. Please see our Havanese History page.
We provide purebred Havanese. I have been in love with this breed since I was a small child, more than 4 decades ago. There have been ties between Cuba and GA going back many, many years. The Havanese dogs have been in this area for a long while, but, there was no a real breeder of Havanese. We know the Havanese were here in GA in the 1800's and early 1900's, at least until the 1930's.
We know there were some Havanese brought here by Cuban immigrants in the 1960's, after the dictator Fidel Castro, took over the island. The children of the Cuban immigrants went to school with me and several of them had Havanese.
I tried and tried to get a puppy, but I was always preempted by Cubans who naturally got their choice of pups, (and, rightfully so, as they lost their all to the dictator). A good while back, a relative of ours married a man whose brother had a Havanese, and, we heard that they had bred her, long ago. However, there are not now any remaining dogs from that line. And, so it goes with the extinction of a rare breed. That is the way the breed ended up being such a rare breed. Only a few dogs left Cuba and no real breeders were breeding them, so the breed nearly died out. There were only a few dogs here and there, and the owners did not breed them, or provide them to others often enough to provide a group of Havanese.
Here is a link to one of my relatives who was involved with Cuba in the mid 1800's, leading us to understand how some few Havanese made their way here, and our deep and abiding love for the breed:
Allen Ferdinand Owen
Some few Havanese dogs have made their way here over the centuries, but, those few have not been bred enough to produce remaining dogs from those lines. Now, perhaps you can understand why we are so concerned with this breed, its preservation, and maintaining purebred Havanese quality for the future. Since I was unable to get Havanese as a child, in the 1950's and '60's, I have made it a lifelong goal to find and breed my Havanese. Praise God for Dorothy Goodale and her preservation of the 11 Havanese purebreds she found. As mentioned, all of our Havanese came from her lines.
There simply is no other breed like them and consequently we are simply obsessed with their preservation. Call it a childhood dream come true, but, Havanese are the be-all end-all with me.
All of our Havanese came from the 11 that were left in the world in the 1970's. Dorothy Goodale's lines are the foundation dogs of our Havanese dogs.

We have information to help you decide if Havanese is the right breed for you. They are friendly, fun, calmer than all other toy breeds, and they love to be with you. They are also hypoallergenic. They require a modest amount of grooming with several combings each week when in full coat. However, you can buzz cut them several times a year and keep them in little lamb cuts which makes them look like little Disney Dogs, or fuzzy young puppies all of their lives!
They love to twirl and dance to delight you. If you laugh at them, whatever they are doing, they will keep doing it. They invent their own tricks. That is probably the reason they were used in circuses for years. They are very submissive without a hint of stubbornness. They live to please you.
They are a 300 year old breed developed exclusively in Cuba. They were developed by the early Euro settlers in Cuba from the European lap dogs, the forerunners or progenitors of Maltese. About 400 years ago they started with breedings that led to the Havanese. They created the Havanese from the European white lap top, Euro - Iberian Peninsula water dogs, Spanish or Euro - Iberian Peninsula poodles and the now extinct breed that was found exclusively in Cuba, the Blanquito.
The Havanese breed is older than the American Cocker Spaniel breed and they were the national dog of Cuba. Charles Dickens and Queen Victoria both had Havanese. They are also called The Havana Silk Dog, Bichon Habaneros, Bichon Havanois, and Havs.
